Inbreeding was minimized by avoiding crossing family lines. Traits that were measured include adult body mass, development time, and lifespan. The data were collected in 2023 by researchers from the University of Glasgow to investigate the effects of parental age and temperature conditions on offspring life-history. We chose this species because we have complementary field projects on field crickets and they are easily maintained in a lab. All individuals were kept at 28 degrees Celsius. Development time and lifespan data were obtained by weekly survival and adult emergence checks. Body mass was recorded to the nearest microgram using a calibrated balance. Weakly checks were done to record the date of adult emergence or death. Individuals had access to food (dried grass pellets - rabbit food from Science Selective) and water ad libitum. The data were entered in an Access data base and subsequently exported as csv file.
