Trait data was recorded both in the field and in a common garden experiment using wild collected seeds planted under standardised condition in the nursery at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). Traits were measured in the field at a single defined sampling date and in the common garden on the date of first flowering and at the end of the flowering season. Genome size estimates were made from wild collected tissue samples sent to RBGKew, where genome sizes were estimated with flow cytometry using propidium iodide (PI)-stained nuclei and with the internal standard Oryza sativa ‘IR36’, and stored in a local database.
