Processed line aeromagnetic data over the Larsen Ice Shelf (1998)

In 1998, aeromagnetic data over the Larsen Ice Shelf were acquired giving information about the geological structure beneath the ice shelf.

We present here the processed line aeromagnetic data collected using scintrex cesium magnetometers mounted on the BAS aerogeophysical equipped Twin Otter.

Data are provided as XYZ ASCII line data.

Statement

Methodology:

The dataset available here includes all channels from raw through to levelled, and microlevelled products. Channel naming follows SCAR/ADMAP2 data release protocols, although the order of processing steps differs from that outlined by ADMAP2 documentation.

Magnetic data channels and processing flow:

MagR- Raw magnetic total field intensity data (nT).

MagC- Raw magnetic data corrected/cleaned for obvious tip tank events or anomalous spikes.

TCorr- Tiptank corrections (nT). These include DC shifts and gradients due to aircraft noice, etc. Dummy values if not applicable.

RefField- Geomagnetic reference field value for which the magnetic data has been compensated. IGRF model 2000 as implemented in Geosoft (nT).

MagRTC- Compensated magnetic value adjusted for tip tanks and the geomagnetic reference field.

BCorr- Low pass filtered (30 minute) magnetic base station correction.

MagBRTC- calculated as MagBRTC= MagBTC- RefField.

SCorr- Any DC shift applied.

ACorr- MagRT filtered using a low pass filter with a cut-off length of 15 fiducials to account for noise introduced by aircraft roll, pitch and yaw.

MagF- Final mag value before levelling.

MagL- Statistically levelled mag data.

MagML- Microlevelled magnetic data following technique of (Ferraccioli et al., 1998). Note tie lines are not included in the microlevelled data channel.
