Habitat records associated with unstructured species records from the iRecord online survey recording tool, UK, 1812-2024
This dataset provides habitat data from unstructured biological records made through iRecord. This dataset includes records between 1812 and 2024, however the majority of the data is from recent years. Records are from England, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and are at 1 km square resolution or more precise. The habitat data was entered by volunteers alongside traditional records of individual taxa, with the taxonomic data being the focus of the record. This dataset includes the year of the recording event (or a year range), the grid reference of the record, whether the taxa associated with the record have been verified as correct, and the European Nature Information System (EUNIS) habitat category recorded. Data was entered into iRecord by recorders (most of whom are volunteers), with this dataset only including data from survey forms that support a drop-down menu of EUNIS habitat categories. Examples of these forms include https://irecord.org.uk/enter-casual-record and https://irecord.org.uk/enter-record-list . Verifiers for taxon recording schemes verified the records, focusing on the identification of the species and spatial accuracy. The verification decisions on occurrences within each sample are listed within the dataset. The habitats associated with the records have not been subject to any verification checks and are known to contain some errors (such as coastal habitats being linked to inland species records).
