OneGeologyGBA

The geological map of the bedrocks of Austria with tectonic lineaments covers an area of nearly 84.000 km2. The dataset on which the map is based is structured in two-levels hierarchy, a primary classification is made into tectonic units. Young sedimentary basins and fault-bounded magmatic rocks are also included in this hierarchy. Within this scheme, the text describing individual polygons provides details of lithological characteristics, in some cases lower-rank tectonic or chronostratigraphic terms are also given. However in these latter cases some lithological information is added. The chronostratigraphic ages of sedimentary rocks and low-grade metamorphic rocks are noted in the text. Tectonic lineaments include nappe boundaries classified into a two-level hierarchy, faults, and buried faults in the basement of the young sedimentary basins.
