Sediment yield measurements for fire-affected locations in the United Kingdom (2018-2019), Tenerife (2018-2019) and Australia (2019-2020)

This dataset describes sediment yields measured in three different locations and time periods after forest fires in UK, Spain and Australia: - Madre del Agua (Tenerife, Spain): 17/08/18 to 14/11/2019 - Thompson (Victoria, Australia): 13/05/19 to 14/01/2020 - Saddleworth (Manchester, UK): 03/08/18 to 30/10/2019 Data were collected using erosion plots and silt fences at hillslope scale to monitor sediment and ash transport during rain events. Title

Statement

Six erosion plots (3x8 m2) and silt fences per treatment were installed at each location. Treatments varied between locations: - Madre del Agua (6 treatments): control (C), 1.5 T/ha pine needle mulch (n1), 5 T/ha pine needle mulch (n2), 8 T/ha wood chips mulch (w1), 12 T/ha wood chips mulch (w2) - Thompson (3 treatments): low (low), moderate (moderate) and high (high) fire severity. - Saddleworth (2 treatments): high (HS) and extreme (ES) fire severity. Silt fences were cleaned out periodically after rain events. The collected sediments were weighed in the field, and a subsample taken to the laboratory to calculate its water content (weighed, oven-dried at 105 oC for 48 h and weighed again) and correct the sediment weight obtained in the field. Sediment yields (T/ha) were calculated dividing the corrected sediment weights for each plot and collection date by the plot area. The dataset includes calculated sediment yields per site, plot and collection date. No additional data analysis was conducted at this stage.
