Season definitions: Winter - 1st April to 31st October; Summer - 1st November to 31st March. Entanglement severity definitions: Loose - material loose; Tight - material tight but not breaking the skin; Severe - material cutting through the skin; Very severe - material cutting through the skin and underlying fat layer. Age definitions (age may also be given in years): Pup - 0 to 1 year; Juvenile - females 1 to 4 years, males 1 to 6 years; Adult - female older than 4 years, male older than 6 years. CCAMLR forms also include an age category of sub-adult but do not define what to count in this category. CCAMLR advises that in any analysis juvenile and sub-adult categories would probably be combined. All data were collected under permit from the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. All animal handling procedures used were regulated by the British Antarctic Survey Ethical Review Committee in collaboration with Cambridge University and the UK Home Office. asNeeded completed
