Analysis of existing Environmental Impact Assessment methodologies for use in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

This document provides an analysis of existing methods for assessing the potential environmental impacts from emissions and resource use that are attributed to specific products in life cycle assessments. The main target audiences include developers of Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) methods, Life Cycle Assessment practitioners, and other technical experts in policy and business. Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are scientific approaches behind a growing number of modern environmental policies and business decision support in the context of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). The International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD) provides a common basis for consistent, robust and quality assured life cycle data, methods and assessments. These support coherent and reliable business and policy instruments related to products, natural resources, and waste management and their implementation, such as eco-labelling, carbon footprinting, and, green procurement.
