Model outputs for simulation of soil organic carbon changes on a Red Soil agricultural site in China using integrated Hydrus 1-D hydrology

Data comprise soil organic carbon (SOC) content from soil simulations in a small agricultural catchment (Sunjia) which is part of the Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) in southeast China (Jianxi province). The simulations were performed using the ECOSSE model (a pool-based carbon and nitrogen turnover model) and soil and climate input data were provided by the research farm at the soil science department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Simulations were conducted in 2018. Full details about this dataset can be found at https://doi.org/10.5285/f8955c65-0103-4a26-9078-f34ec6a28676

Statement

The data was collected through model simulations. These were performed to understand the response of soil carbon models to the different methods of simulating hydrology dynamics in soil. The simulations use two different hydrological representations; one a simple piston flow and one the HYDRUS model. The simulations using the HYUDRS (1-D) model read in soil moisture values from files created from simulations of soil moisture using the HYDRUS model. Simulations were carried out by Dr Joseph Oyesiku-Blakemore in the Environmental modelling group at the University of Aberdeen. The work was part of the UK China Critical Zone Observatory project (the Red Soil project within this group of projects), funded by NERC and NSFC.
